LOUISVILLE, Ky. - A strong line of thunderstorms bore down on the Louisville area after blowing over trees and dropping rain in western Kentucky.

The National Weather Service issued a tornado warning for Edmonson and Grayson Counties until 11:45 a.m.

National Weather Service hydrologist Mike Callahan in Louisville said the storms blowing through Tuesday as part of a cold front include straight line winds in excess of 75 mph, with 40-to-50 mph gusts outside of the thunderstorms.

The storms spawned tornado warnings across much of the state.

Rick Shanklin, warning coordination meteorologist for the National Weather Service in Paducah, said a roof came off a building in Hopkinsville and downed trees were scattered around western Kentucky, but damage appeared minimal.

The Kentucky Transportation Cabinet Fulton County Crew reported a grain bin blew across the roadway on KY 94 near the Intersection with KY 971 and hit a vehicle. No injuries reported.

Shanklin said investigators will look into reports of tornados, but none had been confirmed as of midday Tuesday.

Forecasters spread a tornado watch to all but a the easternmost counties in Kentucky as the storms strengthened after daylight.

The NWS also issued a tornado warning for Ohio County, Todd County and Butler County in Kentucky until 10:30 a.m.

Tornado warnings for Christian and Muhlenberg Counties in Kentucky expired at 10:15 a.m.

Tornado warnings were posted Tuesday morning near Fort Campbell and Hopkinsville. No tornado touchdowns had been confirmed by 9:30 a.m., but a video camera in Hopkinsville shown on showed a wall cloud approaching the city.

Christian and Todd Counties in Kentucky were under a tornado warning until 10 a.m. A Tornado warning expired for Trigg County in Kentucky at 9:30 a.m.

Earlier Tuesday morning, www.duke-energy.com reported a total of 2,146 homes in Clay County without power. By noon, however, that number had dwindled to approximately 50.

The National Weather Service (NWS) based in Indianapolis issued a severe thunderstorm warning Tuesday morning for Clay County.

At 8:27 a.m., NWS radar indicated a line of thunderstorms capable of "producing destructive winds in excess of 70 mph."

The organization announced a tornado watch was in effect for the area as well and a high wind warning.

The high wind warning will remain in effect until 8 p.m., Tuesday.

According to the organization, strong winds would impact central Indiana through Tuesday.
