Buffalo Bills Featured Columnist Longest Yard: Buffalo Bills Need a Pau Gasol For Kobe Bryant....Now!!!!!

Days before the 2010 NFL Draft, thousands of draft " gurus" or pundits projected the miserable Buffalo Bills selecting a franchise left tackle to become the face of the Buffalo Bills franchise. Instead, the new Buddy and Chan regime decided to select Clemson stand-out running back, C.J. Spiller with the first selection of their Buffalo career.

The selection outraged a majority of fans, many of whom believed Bryan Bulaga, Anthony Davis, or Dan Williams should have been the Bills" highly coveted No. 9 overall selection.

The Buffalo Bills proceeded to fill the holes in the defense, drafting the Sun-Belt Conference standout, DE Alex Carrington, and versatile linebacker Arthur Moats.

Head coach, Chan Gailey, stayed true to his word, implying there would be a four- quarterback competition, drafting Levi Brown, out of Troy; much to the dismay of Buffalo Bills fans, hoping they would take a reach at proven signal callers John Skelton, of Fordham University, or Dan LeFevour, of Central Michigan.

Instead of adding depth to the pourous offensive line, new GM Buddy Nix decided to improve the newly implemented 3-4 defense, adding versatile players to compete for starting jobs, as well as bringing strength to special teams.

By not adding proven players to the offensive side of the ball, this proves that both Buddy Nix and Chan Gailey do not have high expectations for the 2010-2011 season, but they wish to improve for the 2011-2012 season.

Nix filled the defensive holes, but added in a recent press conference that, "there were too many holes to fill to worry about this season."

Interestingly, both Todd McShay and Mel Kiper Jr. projected the Buffalo Bills to achieve the No. 1 overall pick in the 2011 NFL Draft. I do not disagree. While the Bills have added great depth to their defense, the brass at One Bills Drive did not add a wing man for starting quarterback Trent Edwards, nor did they receive decent trade compensation for former Pro-Bowl running back, Marshawn Lynch.

As Tom Brady has Wes Welker and Randy Moss; Peyton Manning has Pierre Garcon and Austin Collie, Drew Brees has Marques Colston and Lance Moore; the Bills need a wingman for Lee Evans. Hopefully they found him in 4th round selection Easley out of Connecticut.

The Bills will be a sub-par football team until they add another weapon to the offensive side of the ball.

The Bills are just one or two play-makers away from being contenders in the difficult AFC East. Hopefully they can find their strength with undrafted Free Agents Namaan Roosevelt, the stand-out WR from Buffalo, as well as the other eight studs they signed since the draft.
