Real Housewife's Former Fiance Was Brutally Murdered

On The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills, Kim Richards sometimes seems like the saddest of the bunch. She fights with her sister Kyle, has had trouble finding a new home and admits she feels awkward and lonely since her divorce.

But the reality-TV drama is nothing compared the pain of her past.

Nineteen years ago, Richards was engaged to commodities salesman John J. Collett, then 29, of Agoura Hills, Calif. After following her career in films like Disney's Escape from Witch Mountain, he met his movie star crush and they dated for several months before they began to discuss their dream wedding.

"She loved him and he loved her and it was like a fairy tale," his sister Nina Stormo, 35, tells PEOPLE. "They seemed really happy."
Murder-for-Hire

But in October of 1991, Collett was gunned down by a hit man outside a San Fernando Valley deli in what may have been a business scheme gone horribly wrong. Richards had to identify the body.

"It just tore her apart emotionally and she was not in good shape for a long time," Collett's mother Jan Collett tells PEOPLE. "She really loved John. They were a good match."

Marva DeCarlo Johnson, 31, was sentenced in June of 1993 to 30-years-to-life after he was found guilty of murder. Prosecutors presented evidence that it was a paid hit, but did not present evidence of who bankrolled it or why.

Before his death, Collett had worked for a commodities firm that allegedly defrauded investors for millions. He became one of six defendants in a civil suit filed by California regulators.

John Travolta Reveals Baby Name

John Travolta and Kelly Preston's baby boy will arrive in about three weeks, and they will name him Benjamin, John tells Star magazine.

John, 56, and Kelly, 48, announced they were expecting in May.

"It's impossible to keep a secret ... especially one as wonderful as this," they said in a statement. "We want to be the first to share this great news with everyone that we are expecting a new addition to our family."

They have a daughter, Ella Bleu, 10, and lost their son Jett at the age of 16 last year.

Katy Perry: I'd Rather 'Tease' Than Pose Nude

Katy Perry isn't shy about showing some skin – just don't expect her to bare all.

"I like to play [the sexy] card because it's fun and definitely in my deck, but I like to tease," Perry says in the December issue of British Cosmopolitan. "I'm like a burlesque girl. I definitely won't be doing a Playboy spread, but I will be doing a kind of Dita Von Teese style."

Being married to Russell Brand is what, Perry says, makes her feel unconditionally sexy.

"I'm confident in my skin I guess, lately," she explains. "I think that when you're in a supportive relationship, you don't care anymore about outside. Things that may have irked you before don't matter because you found someone who loves you no matter what."

Adds Perry, "I guess it's a mixture of, 'Hey, I'm 26, and I know these are my prime years and I feel confident,' and being loved-up."

Lady Gaga Dominates MTV Europe Music Awards

Lady Gaga won three prizes at this year's MTV Europe Music Awards on Sunday, claiming Best Female, Song, and Pop honors, just a year after taking the plaudits for best new act.

The ceremony converted two of the Spanish capital's most iconic landmarks into glittering venues from which to present its 2010 honors.

Tens of thousands of music fans crowded downtown Puerta de Alcala and Caja Magica to hear 14 separate performers, including acts by Jared Leto and Shakira.

Lady Gaga beamed her acceptance speech from Budapest, Hungary, where she was on tour. She interrupted a live act in the Hungarian capital to convey by video link her delight at the crop of awards which just kept on coming and spotlighted her song "Bad Romance" as the year's best.

Best New Act went to KE$HA, while the 16-year-old Justin Bieber won the Best Male Artist award, Paramore the Best Alternative act, and Eminem got the Best Hip Hop award.

The new MTV Global Icon award went to Jon Bon Jovi, who thrilled fans with a live performance of "Shot through the heart" and "You're to blame" at the spectacularly decorated, year-old Caja Magica venue, sometimes used for sports events.

At the center of the Caja Magica hall a brilliantly illuminated hollow cube acted as a focal point for indoor acts while the Puerta de Alcala - once the location of the eastern entrance in the long disappeared city wall - provided an outdoor flavor to the show.

Katy Perry got Best Video for "California Gurls" and raised a cheer when she collected the award wearing an ornate, dark outfit.

Presenter Eva Longoria also regaled viewers with a dazzling array of elegant dresses and at one point had the audience in fits of laughter by saying she had discovered her long-lost Spanish relatives in Madrid. She then introduced four statuesque and muscular young men dressed only in underpants bearing the letters "Longoria" at the back. "That's my family, which I'm going to introduce to the girls backstage," she said.

Christina Aguilera Spotted On Double Date

Christina Aguilera went on a double date Saturday night with a male friend.

According to the Daily Mail, Aguilera enjoyed dinner with Matthew D. Rutler, a set assistant on her new movie 'Burlesque,' in which she co-stars with Cher.

Aguilera and Rutler dined at Hollywood's SoHo House with Nicole Richie and her fiance Joel Madden.

As they left the restaurant, Rutler reportedly hid under a blanket in the back seat of Aguilera's car, which was driven by Madden.

Aguilera filed for divorce from husband Jordan Bratman in October, and admitted in a recent interview that she sometimes struggles to get out of bed.

Jill Clayburgh's Costar Jake Gyllenhaal

In one of her final roles, Jill Clayburgh plays the mom of charismatic Viagra salesman Jamie Reidy (Jake Gyllenhaal) in the romantic comedy "Love and Other Drugs."

Gyllenhaal and the film's director Edward Zwick said they had no idea the Oscar-nominated screen legend was battling chronic lymphocytic leukemia at the time. They learned of it after their work together.

"I think part of her sickness is what made her live her life ... and really cherish the moments she had and cherish the people she was with," said Gyllenhaal while promoting the film in New York on Sunday. "And she did when she was with us, cherish those moments, and they made us all love her."

Gyllenhaal filmed with Clayburgh in September of 2009.

Clayburgh, 66, died Friday at her home in Lakeville, Conn., after a 21-year battle with the disease.

Gyllenhaal credits Clayburgh's iconic portrayal of a divorcee in 1978's "An Unmarried Woman" with helping his own mother through divorce.

"It helped her through that time in a way that no other movie or anybody else had," he said.

"She left an indelible impression on me," he said. "You don't really need much time to work or meet somebody and know that they're really alive ... and when I heard that (she was sick) I just thought, you know there's that moment when you go like 'oh, like maybe that might be why she was so extraordinary.' And it makes me want to encourage people to wake up and live it like Jill did."

Katy Perry Shows Off Legs, Wedding Ring

Katy Perry and Russell Brand made their first post-wedding appearance at the MTV Europe Music Awards Sunday night in Madrid.

Katy picked up the Best Video award for 'California Gurls.' See a full list of winners here.

Michele Bachmann

Rep. Michele Bachmann's (R-Minn.) leadership aspirations appeared to have cold water thrown on them Monday when news broke that she had been passed over for a spot on the GOP's post-election transition team. To compound the matter, Rep. Jeb Hensarling (R-Texas,) her primary competition for the desirable conference chair position, was brought on to the crew.

Jordan Fabian of The Hill tweeted Monday:

Rep. Jeb Hensarling named a member of the House GOP transition team, Rep. Michele Bachmann is not.
It's just the latest wrinkle in a GOP leadership dispute that has pitted establishment Republicans against the new wave of conservative energy.

Bachmann announced last week that she would be throwing her name in the hat for the title of GOP Conference Chair, which is soon to be the party's fourth most powerful post.

It didn't take long for some of the most powerful Republicans, including top officials such as likely House Majority Leader Eric Cantor (Va.) and Mike Pence, who had earlier retired his title as Conference Chair, to unite behind Bachmann's rival, Hensarling.

With this latest public and repressive snub of one of the House's most outspoken symbols of fresh, anti-establishment, Tea Party influence, this is either a sign of a potentially divisive and growing rift between two schools of conservative power, or at the least, a blow that will necessitate some mending to keep the relationship between various ranks of Republicans and their constituents from scarring too deeply.

Natalia Vodianova Aims To Be Model Mother

Natalia Vodianova, who dismissed rumours that her marriage was nearing its end as "rubbish", now wants to have more children with her husband, the property heir Justin Portman. "I want to have at least two more babies," the Russian model told Mandrake.

Vodianova, 28, already has three children with her husband, the half-brother of Viscount Portman. "The most important thing to me is being a mother," she told me. "Growing up, I never knew I was going to be famous, but I always knew I would be a good mother."

Jo Wood wobbles on artful exposure
Jo Wood does not seem to be the body conscious type but, it seems, sitting bare-bottomed for an artist can strike fear into the heart of the most intrepid of women. Posing for Alice Instone, in a stance that left little of her derrière to the imagination, the former Strictly Come Dancing contestant tells me she gave strict instructions.

"I told her to paint my bum really small," she said at the exhibition of The House of Fallen Women, in which the painting of Wood, posing as Louis XV's maîtresse-en-titre, Madame de Pompadour, was displayed.

Instone, 35, whose exhibition at Quintessentially Soho in London, showed modern women depicting infamous characters from history, said Wood's concern was a common theme among sitters, who included Cherie Blair, Annie Lennox and Emilia Fox.

"None of the celebrities wanted me to paint what they referred to as their 'wobbly bits'," she said.
Sue Perkins issues Daybreak a low blow

The disappointing viewing figures of ITV's Daybreak may be no laughing matter for hosts Christine Bleakley and Adrian Chiles, but it has provided endless fodder for comics.

Addressing an audience at the Stonewall Awards, an event celebrating those who have had a positive influence on the lives of homosexual people, Sue Perkins, who hosted the evening at the V&A in London, could not help but have a jibe at the floundering ratings of the breakfast television programme.

"Recently, 4 Poofs and a Piano disgraced themselves by appearing on Daybreak," the 41-year-old comedienne said of the "recent tough times" faced by homosexuals.
She added: "I suppose the consolation is that nobody will have seen it."
Ouch.

Free Wifi Across UK

In order to use the service, people will have to do so through Skype Access, the company’s internet feature, and ensure that they are in a wifi hotspot and have the latest version of Skype for Mac or Windows.

Internet Week Europe will last five days, during which more than 100 events, celebrating internet organisations and the technology scene across the continent, will happen in and around London.

Technology giants such as Google and Yahoo! are hosting several events and organisations like the BBC are also getting involved. BBC Worldwide, the commercial arm of the Corporation, announced this morning that it has made its two most popular iPhone apps, Lonely Planet and the BBC Good Food Health Recipes app, usually both £1.79 each, free of charge for the week.

This is the first time Europe has ever laid on an ‘Internet Week’, with the concept having begun in the US two years ago. The aim of the five-day festival is to raise the profile of Europe’s digital industry.

Last week, the Prime Minister, David Cameron, laid out plans for London’s East End to become a centre of technological innovation to rival Silicon Valley. He also announced a new via for entrepreneurs who are prepared to invest in the UK.
Additionally Google, Facebook, Intel and consultants McKinsey & Co committed to investing in the long-term future of the area growing out of London’s Old Street and Shoreditch that is already becoming known as Silicon Roundabout.

King Carl Gustaf Sex Scandal

Five months ago, the Swedish royal family was the toast of Europe. All eyes were trained on Stockholm as the glamorous Crown Princess Victoria wed her long-time boyfriend in a fairy-tale ceremony, and the world's press clamoured for a glimpse of the elegant Swedish royals and their regal guests.
Now the international media is again camped outside the gates of Stockholm's Drottningholm Palace – but this time for far less congratulatory reason.

Revelations last week that the King of Sweden once enjoyed romps in seedy nightclubs owned by shadowy underworld figures have eclipsed the sparkle of July's wedding. King Carl XVI Gustaf, the stern-looking, bespectacled monarch who is honorary chairman of the World Scout Foundation, has found himself thrust uncomfortably in the spotlight following the publication of an unflinching book, Carl XVI Gustaf – Den motvillige monarken (Carl XVI Gustaf – The reluctant monarch) which catalogues his past predilection for wild, alcohol-fuelled orgies and naked jacuzzi parties with models.
The book has caused uproar and dominated the country's media, leading to nationwide soul-searching about the 64-year-old King's role, reputation and right to privacy.
"Strip clubs, illegal clubs, rented ladies who are naked under their fur coats. Women were simply desserts, used as sweets to be served with the coffee," wrote Katrine Kielos in the daily Aftonbladet newspaper.
"The royal family has always been viewed as an august, fabulous family. But these allegations are so grave that our trust in them is seriously damaged," said Jenny Madestam, a political analyst. "The King is not even denying it."
Indeed, the King's bizarre press conference on Thursday – held in a forest after an elk hunt – only served to fan the flames of interest.
"I have spoken with my family and the Queen and we choose to turn the page and move forward because, as I understand, these are things that happened a long time ago," he said – standing in a field, still dressed in his wax jacket and hunting clothes, among a sea of camera crews and reporters.
His handling of the book's publication has shocked some observers.
"Now is the time for the King to be quiet and give no comments. Instead, he says yes to a press conference in the middle of the forest where anything can happen. It is like playing Russian roulette," said Paul Ronge, a PR expert, in the Svenska Dagbladet newspaper.
"His statement can be interpreted as a confession. It is beneath his dignity to even comment a gossip book about his private life. Now the plug is gone and the papers can print page after page with material from the book.
"For the royal court to handle the issue like kindergarten behaviour, without responsibility is very serious".
Indeed, the allegations that the king frequented Mafia-run clubs and used the state police to hide the evidence are extremely serious.
The book's authors, Thomas Sjöberg, Tove Meyer and Deanne Rauscher, spent two years unpicking the complicated story behind the throne.
"He was only 27 when he took office, in the midst of his bachelor years, with girls, booze and 'the lads'," they wrote.
"Then he suddenly became king, and had to promise the people to be a loving father. It was a totally unreasonable promise that he stood and gave in the state room."
Mr Sj̦berg, a leading interviewer and investigative journalist, originally decided to look into the rumours of a dark private life that had long been muttered in Swedish society Рenlisting the help of researcher Tove Meyer and former social worker Deanne Rauscher.
Together they set about lifting the veil of secrecy that hung over the palace.
"That was what I originally wanted to find out: how could such a young king handle a role he has not been allowed to grow into?" said Mr Sjöberg.
It was Ms Rauscher who interviewed many of the women who had been involved with the King.
From her two-bedroom antique-filled flat in Stockholm's upmarket Östermalm area, Ms Rauscher pieced together the testimonies of the women who had partied with the playboy monarch - including Camilla Henemark, a Swedish-Nigerian pop singer and model who had a year-long affair with the King in the late 1990s.
The authors write that the King "had fallen in love like a teenager" and that the Queen, his wife since 1976, knew about the affair but was powerless to stop it.
In an interview before her relationship with the King was known, Ms Henemark spoke of her spiral into depression around the end of the affair.
"It had been a party all the time and lots of champagne and money," she said.
When her modelling and pop career faded, she said: "I became distant and drank constantly. I sank deeper and deeper into depression and hated the world.
"I was thinking about suicide."
Last week Mr Sjöberg and Ms Rauscher took to a houseboat, sheltering one of the women who revealed details of her trysts with the King.
"It has been very stressful," Ms Rauscher told The Sunday Telegraph.
The authors also uncovered evidence of how a Serbian gangster, Mille Markovic, hosted parties for the King and his friends at an underground club in Stockholm, below the National Police Department.
Mr Markovic described how the club had a jacuzzi inside, and the girls invited to the parties "threw off their clothes and sat in the men's laps".
In the evenings the women were assigned their rooms. "It was not formally mandatory, but there were name signs on the doors showing who was going to sleep with whom", said one of the women.
Mr Markovic told a Swedish newspaper yesterday: "I've got live evidence. The entire world will see. This is no fake but real facts. I can prove every single thing."
But perhaps one of the most intriguing elements of the scandal, for those outside the Scandanavian country, is how the Swedish population have reacted.
Over 80 per cent say that the lurid allegations have not changed their perception of the King – and almost 50 per cent say that it is wrong for journalists to look into the private lives of their royal family.
Upon hearing about the book, producers an investigative news programme met with the authors - only to decide that they weren't interested in investigating the royal family.
Thomas Sjöberg, the book's author, admits that the royal family are seen as being above criticism.
"If it would have been the PM, he would be forced to resign the following day," he said.
"There would be a public outcry, severe political consequences for Sweden, political chaos and a constitutional crisis."
But despite the media whirlwind, Swedes seem very relaxed about their head of state's behaviour.
"All the negative PR experts commenting on the King's meeting with the press are totally wrong," said Brita Svensson, a royal correspondent.
"It was no fiasco, no disaster, not unprofessional nor a huge embarrassment. It was completely brilliant. Carl XVI Gustaf was himself.
"The King is ruling. Half of all Swedes say they have very good or good faith in the King. That is a sensational result for a 'Reluctant Monarch'."

Xbox Kinect

The Kinect is here. You’ve no doubt read countless introductions and impressions about the new device. Everything to the setup process to the hit’s and misses of Kinect are all well covered. Families are already enjoying rafting around together, and girlfriends and wives are requesting one of many fitness titles so they can tone up with your favorite gaming system.

So now that it’s arrived the burning question is: what does the future hold for Kinect? Let’s take a look in our crystal ball and see what’s already planned and what we hope is around the corner?

Further involvement with the dashboard:

While the Kinect hub works great and is certainly a strong start to allowing new interaction to your XBOX dashboard experience it certainly has room to grow. I would love to see the voice and wave commands work on the main dashboard to browse the wealth of features that are already there. The ability to use voice commands on Zune is great but I use Netflix far more on my XBOX and the inclusion of voice-activated control of those movies is something I deeply hope MS is looking into. As it works now the use of Kinect to control the hub is essentially flawless in my eyes and I eagerly await the day this control permeates every aspect of the dashboard.

Al Roker Marathon

In honor of their successful completion the grueling, 26.2-mile New York City Marathon the day before, Meredith Vieira and Al Roker were pampered and primped on Monday's "Today."

After showing footage of the two co-hosts running the marathon along with 45,000 companions, and being tearfully congratulated by their families, Matt Lauer and Ann Curry brought in two masseuses to give Roker and Vieira foot massages (Vieira said she had a huge blister on her toe). They were also feted with roses and champagne.

"So is this not a good time to tell them we took the subway?" Vieira joked.

Dallas Morning News

Inez Howze, who watched Game 1 of the World Series on a small, 18-inch RCA TV in her corner apartment at Garland's Montclair Estates, was featured in the Oct. 29 edition of The Dallas Morning News.

"It's the only thing on TV that I can watch and can hear," Howze said. "I'm legally blind, and can't hear very well, and sports, particularly the Texas Rangers, are the only thing I can watch."

That comment opened the heart of Greg Felts of Farmers Branch, who saw Howze's sports enthusiasm as an opportunity to lend a hand to a perfect stranger.

NYS Unemployment

How to file for unemployment varies from state to state, but New York is one of the states that make it easy to apply for unemployment, to file your weekly claim, and to get paid your NYS unemployment benefits.

Unemployed New York workers can file for unemployment benefits online or on the phone. The web site has a claims calculator where you can check the number of weeks of unemployment benefits you're eligible. Payment of benefits is available through direct deposit or a direct payment card, which is similar to a debit card.

If you're not sure about your unemployment eligibility, you can still file a claim. If your claim is turned down, there's an appeals process where you can plead your case.

Unemployment benefits vary from state to state. So, if you're not a New York State resident, your state unemployment office will have all the information you need on how to open an unemployment claim, and how to file for your weekly benefits in your location.

China Japan

Japan will ask China to pay for damage to two patrol vessels caused by a collision with a Chinese trawler in disputed waters, Tokyo has said.

"We will be asking for the boats to be returned to their original condition," government spokesman Yoshito Sengoku said at a news conference.

The collision earlier this month led to the worst diplomatic crisis between the two neighbouring countries in years.

The trawler captain, held by Japan for two weeks, was freed on Friday.

Chief Cabinet Secretary Yoshito Sengoku said it was now China's turn to decide whether it wanted to mend bilateral ties.

"At this point, the ball is now in China's court," he said.

Detentions
The collisions happened near disputed islands in the East China Sea, known as the Senkaku islands in Japan and the Diaoyu islands in China.

Japan said it believed the Chinese trawler had deliberately rammed the Japanese vessels.

Tokyo has turned down China's demand for a formal apology, insisting it has handled the case strictly in accordance with its own laws.

The BBC's Roland Buerk in Tokyo says Japan's government has been widely criticised at home for the decision to free the captain, which Prime Minister Naoto Kan said was made by prosecutors alone.

Mr Kan said the captain had been released without charge to promote "mutually beneficial" ties with China.

But the rift could be hugely damaging for Japan's economy, as China is the country's biggest trading partner, our correspondent says.

Beijing had cut off ministerial-level contacts between the two countries and thousands of Chinese tourists pulled out of trips to Japan.

Concerts by Japan's top boy band SMAP due to take place in Shanghai were cancelled by the Chinese organisers.

Tensions were further heightened last week when China detained four Japanese men.

The four, who were working for a Japanese construction company, were questioned on suspicion of filming in a military zone.

Newton Auburn

AUBURN, Ala. -- The way this Auburn football team insists on living dangerously may be entertaining to watch, but it’s hard on the old ticker.

Josh Bynes ought to know. He’s lived it now for seven straight weeks.

“Yeah, it’s nerve-racking, because we know we can’t keep putting ourselves in this position,” said Bynes, the Tigers’ senior linebacker. “But there’s just something about this team. When we have to have it in the fourth quarter, somebody’s always there to make it happen.”

That somebody Saturday on defense was Bynes, who had interceptions on back-to-back possessions to send Arkansas packing for good in a 65-43 score-a-thon that marked the most points ever scored in a non-overtime SEC game.

Here’s something else it marked: The official Cam Newton for Heisman Trophy campaign.

If there’s anybody playing better football right now than Newton, he’s not on this planet.

“All I know is that I’m glad he’s on our team. I don’t know where we’d be without him,” said Auburn safety Zac Etheridge, who contributed to the No. 7-ranked Tigers’ 28-point blitzkrieg in the fourth quarter with a 47-yard fumble return for a touchdown.

Newton accounted for four touchdowns against the No. 12-ranked Hogs. He churned out 328 yards of total offense, including 188 rushing yards and three rushing touchdowns. He also threw a 15-yard touchdown pass to Emory Blake.

For the season, Newton has now rushed for 170 yards or more in four different games and has accounted for 25 touchdowns -- 13 passing and 12 rushing.

To put those numbers into perspective, former Auburn quarterback Pat Sullivan holds the school record with 26 touchdowns -- and he did that during his Heisman Trophy-winning 1971 season.

“I don’t have the opportunity to watch everybody in America, but I can tell you this: Number 2 (Newton) is one spectacular football player … and I’m not one to go out on a limb,” Auburn coach Gene Chizik said. “But everybody in the world sees it. It’s not like I’m telling anybody anything new.”

The 6-6, 250-pound Newton was magical in the open field, making Arkansas defenders miss, and showing the moves of a tailback. But when the Tigers needed him in the passing game, he also delivered and finished 10-of-14 for 140 yards.

“A guy that big isn’t supposed to be that shifty, but he is,” said Bynes, shaking his head in amazement.

For three quarters, Newton and the Auburn offense bailed out a defense that was shredded by Arkansas’ passing game. Most of the damage was done by Arkansas backup quarterback Tyler Wilson, who played brilliantly in relief of Ryan Mallett, who was knocked out of the game in the second quarter with a concussion.

Wilson hit 15 of his first 16 passes and finished with 332 passing yards and four touchdowns.

His 23-yard touchdown pass to Greg Childs less than a minute into the fourth quarter and ensuing two-point conversion pass to Childs gave the Hogs a 43-37 lead.

The Tigers were on their heels defensively and looked like they were in trouble.

“That’s the thing about this team that’s different than a lot of the ones I’ve been around,” said Trooper Taylor, Auburn’s assistant head coach and receivers coach. “When things go wrong or we start giving up some plays, you don’t get any of this, ‘Oh man, here we go again.’

“Instead, you have the offensive guys coming up to the defensive guys and vice versa and they’re telling each other, ‘I’ve got your back, or I’m going to make this play, or we’re going to get this stop.’ That’s the way it is with this team.

“We are truly one.”

The Tigers (7-0, 4-0) have also been the truth in the fourth quarter.

They’ve outscored their opponents this season 69-21 after the third quarter, which includes the overtime period against South Carolina.

And in their last two games against nationally ranked foes -- the other one being South Carolina -- they’ve forced seven turnovers in the fourth quarter.

“Our football team is resilient. Our defense is resilient,” Chizik said. “We know we didn’t play well all night, and there are probably numerous reasons why. We will see that tomorrow on film. But when it was the fourth quarter and we had to make plays, and when we had to get turnovers, we got three.”

That’s not a bad trait to have, even when you do give up 566 yards of total offense.

And having Newton at quarterback is the quintessential equalizer.

“We play as a team, and we play all four quarters,” Newton said. “There’s nobody pointing fingers on this team, and there’s no selfishness on this team. Whatever it takes to win, we’re going to do.”

Until somebody figures out a way to stop Newton, the Tigers are probably going to keep on winning.

Arkansas defensive end Jake Bequette summed it up best Saturday.

“You’ve got to give that guy a lot of credit,” Bequette said. “He’s a great player.

"He’s going to do that to a lot of people.”

Daylight Savings Time

During late Winter we move our clocks one hour ahead and "lose" an hour during the night and each Fall we move our clocks back one hour and "gain" an extra hour. But Daylight Saving Time (and not Daylight Savings Time with an "s") wasn't just created to confuse our schedules.

The phrase "Spring forward, Fall back" helps people remember how Daylight Saving Time affects their clocks. At 2 a.m. on the second Sunday in March, we set our clocks forward one hour ahead of Standard Time ("Spring forward," even though Spring doesn't begin until late March, several weeks after the start of Daylight Saving Time). We "Fall back" at 2 a.m. on the first Sunday in November by setting our clock back one hour and thus returning to Standard Time.

The change to Daylight Saving Time ostensibly allows us to use less energy in lighting our homes by taking advantage of the longer and later daylight hours. During the eight-month period of Daylight Saving Time, the names of time in each of the time zones in the U.S. (map) change as well. Eastern Standard Time (EST) becomes Eastern Daylight Time, Central Standard Time (CST) becomes Central Daylight Time (CDT), Mountain Standard Time (MST) becomes Mountain Daylight Time (MDT), Pacific Standard Time becomes Pacific Daylight Time (PDT), and so forth.

History of Daylight Saving Time

Daylight Saving Time was instituted in the United States during World War I in order to save energy for war production by taking advantage of the later hours of daylight between April and October. During World War II the federal government again required the states to observe the time change. Between the wars and after World War II, states and communities chose whether or not to observe Daylight Saving Time. In 1966, Congress passed the Uniform Time Act, which standardized the length of Daylight Saving Time.

Daylight Saving Time is four weeks longer since 2007 due to the passage of the Energy Policy Act in 2005. The Act extended Daylight Saving Time by four weeks from the second Sunday of March to the first Sunday of November, with the hope that it would save 10,000 barrels of oil each day through reduced use of power by businesses during daylight hours. Unfortunately, it is exceedingly difficult to determine energy savings from Daylight Saving Time and based on a variety of factors, it is possible that little or no energy is saved by Daylight Saving Time.

West Memphis Three

On the afternoon of 6 May 1993, West Memphis was rocked by the news of the discovery of the mutilated bodies of three eight-year-old boys. Rumors regarding the nature of the murders spread like wildfire through the town. It was soon well known that the boys had been cut with a knife, raped and at least one of the boy's genitals had been cut, many of these rumors were based on inaccurate police assumptions. By 12.00 p.m. the next day, police were questioning their first suspect, Damien Echols. Several weeks later Jessie Misskelley, an associate of Echols, confessed to the murders, implicating Damien Echols and another friend, Jason Baldwin. Soon after, following a confession by Misskelley, the three teenagers were arrested and charged with the murders of James M. Moore, Steven E. Branch and Christopher M. Byers.

The citizens of West Memphis were relieved that the monsters that had committed these heinous crimes had been apprehended and justice would be served. There was a great deal of anger in the community directed towards these three adolescents, supposedly involved in Satanic cults, who were accused of killing three innocent boys as part of a Satanic ritual. Rumors of Satanic groups had abounded in this dominantly Baptist community for decades. Details of their exploits were well known although there was never any proof of any murders actually having been performed in the past. From the time the arrests were made until they were tried, local papers fed the community's blood-lust, with stories of Satanic abominations appearing on a regular basis.

On Wednesday 19 January 1994, Jessie Misskelley was sent to trial after an attempt to have his confession suppressed was denied. Two weeks later, he was found guilty on one count of first degree capital murder and two counts of second degree capital murder. He was sentenced to life imprisonment with no parole. He was seventeen years old.

The trial of Jason Baldwin and Damien Echols began on Tuesday 4 February 1994. On Monday 18 April 1994, they were both found guilty on three counts of capital murder. The next day Jason, just sixteen, was sentenced to life imprisonment with a non-parole period of forty years. Eighteen-year-old Damien Echols was sentenced to death by lethal injection.

More than five years after these sentences were handed down the three young men continue to proclaim their innocence and are persevering in their attempts to have new trials granted. This in itself is not unusual. There are many guilty men who have succeeded in tying up the legal system in the process of appeals for as many as fifteen years. What is unusual in this case is that they are not alone in proclaiming their innocence. Thousands of American citizens are convinced that Jessie, Jason and Damien were wrongly tried and convicted and are now lending their support to the fight for justice. Everyday this support is growing and now includes many criminal and legal experts who are throwing the weight of their knowledge and experience behind the three boys.

Damien Echols claims that he was found guilty long before the trial began because he was considered weird by many in the community, having practiced the Wicca religion and listened to the music of supposedly Satanic groups such as "Metallica." Jason believes he was found guilty by association. Jessie claims that his confession was coerced, claiming he had told police whatever they had wanted him to so that they would let him go.

Under question in this case is not merely whether Jessie, Jason and Damien are guilty or innocent, but whether the correct legal processes were upheld to secure their convictions. Was the basic tenet of the American legal system, the presumption of innocence, discarded in order to satisfy a community's call for the revenge of the dreadful murders of three innocent children?

Call Of Duty Black Ops Review

Despite the phenomenal and underrated Call of Duty: World at War, Treyarch has not been able to shed the stigma that mark it as a study has been limited to collecting the seed sown by IW and its ability to move the franchise to a new level little or no. For many Treyarch is just the computer recycler previous Call of Duty to allow Activision to release a sequel every year, giving breaths IW 24 months to do the real leap in quality. 12 months have been forced to change the perspective, which has affected not only the Black Ops in question, but the future of Call of Duty. The neglect of multiple members of Infinity Ward has dismantled virtually the study, as Activision has had to turn the opening for Treyarch at the headliners, providing them everything they might need to make a delivery height.
This time the action takes place in the Cold War where the role of Mason will be part of the SOG (Special Operation Group). The SOG’s were the elite team responsible for carrying out the Black Ops, top secret covert missions that were intended to destabilize and weaken both the former Soviet Union and their allies. In this installment will travel from Cuba to the frozen tropical USSR, not forgetting to give us a walk in the heat of the Vietnam War, through other awake my prefer locations with your own eyes.
Maximum level of frenzy from the first mission, but sustained by the minute of play. That is really difficult. Most of the big games live on specific moments of showmanship that do not fall into oblivion, therefore, maintain that level of pure entertainment with no breaks and without wavering is what makes Black Ops in a game that exceeds the large category categorized as sublime. The key to ensuring that intensity has been guaranteed by the dynamics of changing environments and goals. Black Ops’s argument unfolds through flashbacks that put us in each of them in completely different scenarios, leading to a variety of actions, characters and locations. As soon as we are trying to assassinate Fidel Castro in Cuba in the first mission, trying to survive a riot in a Soviet prison as a hill to defend the attack from a horde of “Charlie.”
Call of Duty: Black Ops is a game of great visuals. No looks Uncharted 2, or the strength of Killzone 2, not the character models are like Kratos, however, the whole graph displays a high level of technical finish. Everything is good enough to draw a balance to conceal any gap. No deficiencies in bulk, no notable problems. What you need to highlight Black Ops is the immense task of location and level design. Vietnam, Laos, Cuba, the Arctic, ships, laboratories, bunkers, villages, etc.. A constant change of ambience perfectly recreated. Throughout our single player experience will seem to be playing multiple different games. A stunning artwork.

For Colored Girls Poems

During my senior year in college i went back to my roots and tried out for a part in the play "For Colored Girls Who Have Considered Suicide When the Rainbow is Enuf". Although i wanted the part of the "Lady in Red" i got the part of the "Lady in Orange". I couldn't really remember her role, nor did i know what she was about, but after reading this poem i was convinced that this role was made for me. See it practically coincided with my life and how i was feeling. After breaking up with my abusive boyfriend of 3 years, i started dating a new guy, a younger guy, someone who at the time made me feel alive again...for awhile. Abuse and the experience doesn't just go away, even if the abuser does, you live and eat and breathe that shit for years. This new fellow was kind enough but when he decided to play around with me, well i had very little patience for his shit, or anyone elses. I remember my director telling me she needed more emotion from me, more sexiness, more rawness and though i tried i couldn't evoke those emotions because i had a wall built up where emotions were not allowed to escape...until that night. The night i walked to his apartment and cooked him a meal, only to catch him on the phone with another women...the night after i made a trip to Indianapolis, IN to give him a gift for Christmas, only to find he was out of town with another woman, the night after i was so glad that he was visiting my hometown, only to find him flirting and directly engaging with a friend of mine. After that, and the night of our opening performance i had all i needed, but didn't want to perform that piece with the raw emotion that my director wanted because i finally felt it...the breakdown, the sorrow, the repeated failures of trying to get it right and then the redemption. I found God inside of me!

Wade Phillips Fired

Remember: Wade Phillips has been a lame duck head coach since the day he arrived in Dallas. If Jerry Jones could have hired Jason Garret as the head coach, he would have.

Back in September, I talked to a retired NFL player about the Cowboys, and he placed the blame on the ownership. "[Jerry] created this when he paid Jason Garrett head coach money. Because that was the guy that Jerry wanted all along. Jason Garrett's making $3 million. And yeah, Wade got a raise so that he made just a little bit more. But how is he supposed to call it his team when the owner obviously supports the other guy?"

"Jerry says to Wade, 'Oh you just go coach the defense.' But nah, that's not how it works."

And, um, did you happen to see last night's disaster in Green Bay? It's not working.

HA-HA-HA EVERYONE'S SMILING AND THE COWBOYS ARE THE MOST PATHETIC TEAM IN THE LEAGUE ISN'T THAT HILARIOUS? ... God ... Can Jerry Jones please do something?

SB Nation's Cowboys blog, Blogging the Boys, wants a change:

Maybe we're overreacting, maybe we're spoiled. There are plenty of teams that have been this bad for much longer than what we're experiencing. So if you want to call us out on that, feel free to do it, you'd be right. But ... there's no reason for Wade to continue coaching this team.

The Green Bay Packers toyed with the Cowboys. The Jacksonville Jaguars did the same a week ago. They didn't just beat the Cowboys, they humiliated them. 1-7. The 2010 Dallas Cowboys have imploded.

It never feels good to actively call for someone else to get fired. It's petty, and it takes an inevitably nuanced situation with myriad problems and turns one man into the scapegoat for everything. That's certainly the case this year in Dallas; whatever's gone wrong, it's not all Wade's fault.

And Jason Garrett won't be the solution, either. Without going into his problems as an offensive coordinator, the same player I talked to in September had this to say about Garrett:

"I played with Jason, and he's a good guy. But once a guy snaps on him, Jason will be done with it. He'll go out of his way to avoid a player. Won't talk to 'em, won't make eye contact... Guys in this league have a hard time respecting that."

"So he's scared," I said.

"You said it I didn't," he said quickly. "But Norv Turner was that way too..."

So with Wade Phillips reeling, we should make it completely clear: this isn't all his fault.

But he still needs to go, and you can choose your metaphor here. Maybe he's a CEO that's overseen the dramatic collapse of a Fortune 500 company, a humiliated lightning rod for criticism, just waiting for the board of directors to vote him out at the end of the year. Or maybe he's an animal, whimpering softly by the side of the road, waiting to be put out of his misery. Or perhaps he's the boyfriend that knows things aren't working, just waiting to have "The Talk" where his worst fears are confirmed and he finds out things are over for good. Then, both sides start over.

However you want to look at it, though, all of those scenarios favor firing Wade now. Clearly, after the Dallas Cowboys somehow found a new way to humiliate themselves on national TV last night, anything would be an improvement for this year's Cowboys. But it would also be the best thing for Wade Phillips.

Say what you want about him, but he's a good coach who's done his best in a difficult situation the past few years in Dallas. He deserves the courtesy of being sent on his way before things devolve further and the humiliation gets even more spectacular.

This past week I predicted Sunday night's debacle, asking rhetorically, "What will it take for Jerry Jones to fire Wade Phillips? Would a 30-point loss on National Television do the trick?"

Ah, but Sunday night's loss turned out to be 38 points, technically.

And as the exasperation from everyone gets more exaggerated, Wade Phillips remains the head coach of the most pathetic team in the NFL, technically.

Veterans Day 2010

The Veterans Day National Ceremony is held each year on November 11th at Arlington National Cemetery . The ceremony commences precisely at 11:00 a.m. with a wreath laying at the Tomb of the Unknowns and continues inside the Memorial Amphitheater with a parade of colors by veterans’ organizations and remarks from dignitaries. The ceremony is intended to honor and thank all who served in the United States Armed Forces.

The Veterans Day National Committee also selects a number of regional sites for Veterans Day observances throughout the country. From stirring parades and ceremonies to military exhibits and tributes to distinguished veterans, these events serve as models for other communities to follow in planning their own observances.

Meredith Vieira Marathon

In honor of their successful completion the grueling, 26.2-mile New York City Marathon the day before, Meredith Vieira and Al Roker were pampered and primped on Monday's "Today."

After showing footage of the two co-hosts running the marathon along with 45,000 companions, and being tearfully congratulated by their families, Matt Lauer and Ann Curry brought in two masseuses to give Roker and Vieira foot massages (Vieira said she had a huge blister on her toe). They were also feted with roses and champagne.

"So is this not a good time to tell them we took the subway?" Vieira joked.

Chilean Miner Marathon

A Chilean miner ran, walked and hobbled his way to the finish line of the New York City Marathon on Sunday, showing the passionate grit that helped him survive more than two months trapped underground.

Edison Pena crossed the Central Park finish line at 3:24 p.m., with a time of 5 hours, 40 minutes, 51 seconds. The Elvis fan was draped in a Chilean flag as Presley songs played over the speakers.

The 34-year-old survivor had beat his own goal – to complete the course through the city's five boroughs in six hours.

Bags of ice covered his swollen knees as a grim-faced Pena walked the second half of the marathon, but he summoned enough energy to run the last stretch along Central Park West.

"In this marathon I struggled," he said. "I struggled with myself, I struggled with my own pain, but I made it to the finish line. I want to motivate other people to also find the courage and strength to transcend their own pain."

Pena's personal victory came just weeks after he was still training in near-darkness, jogging 6 or 7 miles each day 2,300 feet underground in stifling heat and humidity. He and 32 other men survived 69 days in the caved-in mine before they were rescued last month.

He said running was his salvation – his way of proving how much he wanted to live.

On this sunny day in Manhattan, the strong will that kept him focused came shining through.

It didn't seem to matter to the world whether No. 7127 actually finished the race running into Central Park – or ended his first marathon barely making it.

Conan O Brien

Just in case you weren’t clear on this: Conan O’Brien’s new show starts tonight.

Also, Conan O’Brien has embraced the Internet.

With that out of the way, we can now enjoy O’Brien’s latest digital foray. This American Express ad isn’t technically a new media event, since you’ll start seeing the spot on good old-fashioned TV today. But given that Amex has bought out the front page of YouTube, odds are very high that you’re going to encounter the clip on Google’s site, or somewhere else on the Web:

Worth noting: While the ad is timed to run in conjunction with O’Brien’s debut on TBS, note that there’s no explicit tie-in. The WSJ reports that Amex paid O’Brien — and not TBS owner Time Warner — “more than $1 million” for his services.

Peyton Hillis

Coming off of a bye week, the Cleveland Browns flat out dominated the New England Patriots, a team who entered the game with the best record in the NFL. This wasn't a fluke victory by any stretch of the imagination.

On offense, Peyton Hillis couldn't be stopped, as he ran for a career high 184 yards on 29 touches for 2 touchdowns. That includes a nice 35-yard burst that he had to finish off the Patriots in the fourth quarter, forcing New England to put backup Brian Hoyer into the game because they were losing so badly. Colt McCoy only threw the ball 19 times, but completed about 75% of his passes. Congratulations Brian Daboll -- the Browns finally had a perfect offensive game by emphasizing the run, and then having a few clutch passes mixed in. Today, I changed my mind -- McCoy is the starting quarterback the rest of the season.

As far as the Patriots' offense, Tom Brady looked confused with the defensive looks our team was throwing at him. His receivers struggled to catch the football at times, and Rob Grankowski had a costly fumble just before halftime. The Patriots only converted 3/11 of their third downs (27%), which I imagine is a season-low for them.

The Browns didn't stop the creativity and risk-taking in this game. They mixed it up on kickoffs to keep the ball away from Brandon Tate, and one of those tries resulted in an accidental onside kick recovery. On offense, a version of the "fumblerooski" was run, with Chansi Stuckey taking it in for a score. The Browns also converted a 4th-and-short in their own territory in the first quarter.

The past two games have been unbelievable, and who doesn't think we can beat the New York Jets next week now? Could Cleveland even be favored, considering how the Jets almost lost to the Lions?

Rockmelt Download

The browser market is packed full, but Chromium-based Rockmelt is the newest browser to enter testing. Rockmelt stores your browsing preferences online, so you can load them anywhere. Rockmelt uses your Facebook login, however, which may be questionable, given the security issues surronuding the site.
Rockmelt with Chromium base
Rockmelt is a browser backed by Marc Andreessen, one of Netscape’s original developers. The browser uses Chromium, the open-source basis of Google’s Chrome browser. This means it is an HTML5-compliant browser that is capable of taking on just about anything the web throws at it. Rockmelt is in limited beta release, and users have to request an invitation to use the socially-connected browser.
Cloud-based browsing in Rockmelt

The biggest competitive advantage Rockmelt claims is the ability to store your browsing preferences, no matter which computer you are using. Rockmelt uses Facebook Connect, and integrates your friends list and chat directly into the browser. Rockmelt also pulls the newest content from your bookmarked pages, letting you know when there is new content to read. The developers of Rockmelt say that this is more in-line with the interactivity of the web, rather than passive browsing of pages.
Rockmelt and Facebook

One of the most unique features of Rockmelt is that it requires a Facebook login. Most of the interactivity of Rockmelt comes from and with your Facebook contacts, and your browsing information is stored with your Facebook identity. Given that Facebook has a long history of allegedly misusing personal information, that fact is giving many pause. The only way to keep personal information safe is to keep tight control on who has it and where it goes. So before you download and use Rockmelt, it would be prudent to consider very carefully if connecting all your personal information on Facebook to all your web-browsing history is something you want to happen.

HSV Maloor8

The testers: Joshua Dowling and Jaedene Hudson.

The car: HSV Maloo R8.

The price: $65,740 plus on-road costs.

Vital statistics: 6.0-litre V8 (307kW, 550Nm), six-speed auto.

He: This is the successor to the world's fastest ute. It also happens to be the most powerful ute made in Australia. The price starts from $59,990 but the auto adds $2000 and the 20-inch wheels and leather seats add $3750. So if you owned such an expensive ute, would you put tools in the back?

She: Never. I'd be worried I'd scratch the paint.

He: According to HSV, these utes aren't necessarily used by tradies. Rather, they're used by people who do a lot of stuff on weekends, hence the advertising slogan, "Get out there". It makes a bit of a style statement. What do you think?

She: At last it looks different from the Holden SS ute.

He: HSV was able to design its own look because its tailgate is made from high-strength plastic. The tail-lamp extensions in the HSV tailgate section look good but aren't functional. Do you reckon that's an issue?

She: They look good but they should do something. I think it goes to the heart of HSV's credibility. It shouldn't just be change for the sake of it. It would nice to see some extra lamps in there.

He: What did you think about the interior?

She: I don't like the meaty steering wheel. It's too big for my hands. But it's really good there is extra storage behind the seats. It was the one thing Ford Falcon utes had over the Holdens.

He: I like the steering wheel and love the sports seats (and the seating position), especially the fact you can flip the passenger's seat forward from the driver's side. The lever is within easy reach. I just wish the driver's seat had twin levers, too, so you could flip it forward from the passenger's side.

She: I was surprised at how firm it rides for a ute but then I guess that's what gives it the handling edge. The power bulges in the hard lid limit rear vision but at least rear-parking sensors are standard.

He: I thought the ride was hard at first but then I got used to it. It's firm but not uncomfortable. I loved the performance brakes. Other HSVs we've tested haven't felt quite as good. This one must have been run in better.

She: And the stability control system works well. It's especially handy in a ute - on wet or dry roads - because it's so light over the rear.

He: So would you buy one?

She: I love it but I'd probably save $20,000 and get an SS ute and slowly adds things to it.

He: I can see where you're coming from but by the time I put all my gear on an SS ute I may as well have bought an HSV Maloo. So I guess you won't be wanting this for the weekend then?

She: Hang on, I never said that!

Jeff Gordon Jeff Burton Fight

Watch the Jeff Gordon, Jeff Burton fight in this NASCAR video clip – there’s something you don’t see every day in NASCAR!

Jeff Gordon and Jeff Burton’s fight went down Sunday at Texas Motor Speedway – Jeff Gordon came at Jeff Burton, shoving him after the two crashed during a caution period.

Watch the Jeff Gordon Jeff Burton fight explode (video) after Jeff Burton crashed with Gordon, with Burton driving into the back of Gordon, pushing his car into the wall.

To say Jeff Gordon was pissed would be an understatement. Gordon walked toward Burton, engaged in some shoving and the two were separated by NASCAR officials.

Overall, Jeff Burton was sorry for what happened, saying he didn’t blame Jeff Gordon for being upset: “I turned left and he turned left and we hung up and off we went. It was my fault, it was 100 percent my fault. I don’t blame him for being mad. I would have been mad, too. He was upset and he should have been upset. I wrecked him under caution. I didn’t mean to wreck, but I wrecked him under caution. I don’t have a bit of problem with what he did.”

On his end, Gordon said he was “really frustrated,” adding, “Of all the people out there, I never thought that would happen with Jeff Burton. I have had a lot of respect for Jeff, but I have certainly lost a lot of respect for him today.”

What do you make of the Jeff Gordon/Jeff Burton fight?

Wiesmann Roadster Mf3

Weismann, a small German sports car manufacturer, is best known for their BMW powered machines, specifically the MF3 Roadster that featured the E46 M3’s famous S54 3.2L straight-six. And while they were absolutely brilliant to drive, later incorporating coupe, V8 and V10 models as well. But they were rather a bit too serious for the common man.
As the BMW M5 is going from the S85 V10 to the new planned twin-turbo V8, the top of the line MF5, which also had the S85, naturally follows suite.
There aren’t many details on what kind of numbers the new V8 will produce in the lesser MF4, but for the MF5 it’s set to produce an even 555 horsepower, launching to from 0-60 in less than 4 seconds and onto a top speed of 193 MPH, making it the most powerful, and well serious Weismann ever produced.

Press Release:

The evolution of dynamics: The Wiesmann model series MF4 and MF5 as of now come with new twin turbo engines

Motor replacement at the Dülmen sports car manufactory. Starting in the new year, Wiesmann will be banking on BMW twin turbo technology for their model series MF4 and MF5. The Wiesmann GT and Roadster MF4 and MF5 can now be ordered with the new engine types. These engines will be stronger and more agile, while working more efficiently and economically than their predecessors. Top priority in the selection of these new engines went to what Wiesmann is all about: unlimited driving fun.

The MF4 will now be equipped with a BMW 4.4l V8 twin turbo direct injection petrol engine. With its engine capacity of 4,395 cm³ and 407 hp (300kW) at 5,500 to 6,400 rpm, the MF4 will reach a top speed of 180.8 mp/h. It will reach 0 to 60 mp/h in just 4.6 seconds. And while doing so, these handmade sports cars create an unrivalled symphony of sound, power and sheer driving excitement.

Also the MF5 will receive an engine based on latest twin turbo technology. The top-of-the-range model will also be equipped with a 4.4l V8 twin turbo direct injection petrol engine – this one, however, with even more impressive capacity. Here are the M-motor specifications: 555 hp at 5,750 to 6,750 rpm; 0 to 60 mph in 3.9 seconds, and a top speed of 193.2 mp/h. And all that with just 10.7l per 100 km (combined) – a truly remarkable result at such performance values. The new engines make the MF5 model series the most powerful Wiesmann cars of all time.

Obama Trip To India

What would you do if you were President Barack Obama and your Democrat Party got it’s clock cleaned on Election Day? Get the heck out of the country! Tomorrow, President Barack Obama leaves for India on a ten-day tour ending in South Korea, costing us taxpayers some $200 Million dollars a day! Obama is bringing an entourage of 3,000 people with him. Obama’s trip to India does include a meeting with Prime Minister Manohan Singh in New Delhi. A total of 40 jetliners will haul Obama, family, friends and staff. They’ve rented the entire Taj Mahal Palace & Tower Hotel, all 570 rooms! He’s even bringing his teleprompters with him!

There is no doubt that Obama got his clock cleaned during yesterday’s November 2010 mid term elections. The election results thus far tallied have the GOP winning back the House of Representatives with at least a 63 seat gain. Votes for about a dozen seats are still being counted. gains in the Senate were as expected, at least five seats and possibly two more once Alaska and Colorado are certified. The other major defeat was in state races, where the GOP won at least nine governor races from Democrat-held states and flipped at least 17 state legislators. These will prove crucial as Congressional redistricting is done over the next two years based on new Census data.

The prospects for Obama in 2012 have certainly taken a turn for the worse. Especially in the ‘Rust-Belt’ states; Pennsylvania, Ohio, Michigan, Indiana, Wisconsin and even in his home state of Illinois. So is it any wonder that Obama would want to leave the country for a while? But does he really need to spend $200 Million dollars a day for his Obama-India adventure?

Obama is already getting off on the wrong foot even before he boards his jet. President Barack Obama spoke about his India trip with journalists from India this morning, telling them that two key issues facing Indo-US relations, a permanent seat on the UN Security Council and an easing of export laws, could be “very difficult and complicated”. Not what they wanted to hear.

Obama’s trip to India does include a meeting with Prime Minister Manohan Singh in New Delhi. The ten-day jaunt through Asia ends in South Korea. Barack Obama has already thrown India an insult, insisting that he be allowed to use teleprompters when he speaks before their Parliament. Teleprompters have never been allowed in the Indian Parliament! So, not only is Obama’s India adventure costing us U.S. taxpayers $200 Million dollars a day, but he’s setting the stage for another foreign policy gaffe which could set back relations with India for a decade or more. The only good thing about Obama going to India is that he won’t be around here for ten days.

Melissa Bean

Democratic incumbent Melissa Bean is not conceding she's lost the race in Illinois’ 8th congressional district, but with all precincts now reporting results, Republican challenger Joe Walsh is ahead by 553 votes of more than 200,000 cast.

Going into Tuesday’s election, few thought Bean would be unseated from her Northwest suburban district. Republican Joe Walsh is part of the Tea Party movement.

A spokesman for Bean’s campaign said Wednesday afternoon the election is still “too close to call.” Bean, from Barrington, is holding out hope that provisional and absentee ballots may allow her to keep the seat.
